OCTOBER 20, 2009 NEWSLETTER         Your new executive held its first meeting on Saturday Oct 17 and this is our first newsletter .    We are planning to have five winter socials this year.   The first two have been confirmed with People's Court, and the rest will most likely occur on the indicated dates subject to availability of People's Courts.   Remembrance Day Social Sunday November 8th @ 7pm Pot Luck (Bring your old racquets. Prizes for the oldest playable racquets)  If enough people bring some old wooden racquets we may have some challenge games with your woodies. For signup please send a note to publicity@coquitlamtennisclub.org Christmas Social Sunday December 6th @ 6:30pm Pot Luck Wear Red New Year Social Sunday January 17th @ 6:30 pm Pizza Chinese New Year Social Sunday February 21st @ 6:30 pm Chinese Food (Wear something Red) St Patrick's Day Social Sunday March 14th @6:30 pm Pot Luck (Wear something Green) Please note that we can only accommodate 40 players on a first come first serve basis.  In other words, sign up soon, if you do not want to be disappointed.  Now is the time to sign up for the Remembrance Day Social. Cost:   Free for members on the Pot Luck Nights.  Guests will only be allowed to sign up 7 days prior to the event and the guest's cost will be $5.00 Players who sign up, but do not show up, will not be allowed to sign up early on the following two social night events.  This is because, when you do not show up, you are preventing another member from participating.  It is common courtesy to let us know well in advance if you cannot play on the indicated evening you signed up for.           -------- Membership: Currently we have 125 members -------- Spring Leagues: The current status of Ladies leagues is as follows: We have confirmed a Div 2 (Night) Captained by Heather Coxell We have confirmed a new Div 4 (Night) Captained by Freda Leong We hope to have a Div 5 (Day) We most likely will have a Div 5 (Night) but no one has volunteered to be Captain. In order to find out how much interest there is in either Div 5 (DAY)  and/or (Night)  we asking our members, that are not currently signed up to play in Div 2 and Div 4(Night),  to send a note to (Publicity@coquitlamtennisclub.org)  SUBJECT - LADIES LEAGUE - indicating what division (Div 5 Day) or (Div 5 Night) they would be interested in playing.   The Executive needs to have this information in order to advise Tennis BC by December 30th which divisions we will post a team for. The current status Men's leagues is as follows: We have confirmed a Div C2 We have confirmed a Div B2 Adrian Tan is looking into submitting a team of younger players for Div C1       Players interested in playing men's league can send a note to publicity@coquitlamtennisclub.org          **************************************************************************************

NEWSLETTER MARCH 2009   Ed and Ray have met with the city and repairs to netting and power wash of the courts is scheduled to be done in April.  There is a good chance that the courts behind the club house will be resurfaced this summer.  Problems with lighting will also be hopefully addressed.  In addition to 3 lights being burned out, two lights are on a security circuit only and do not come on for playing time. SOCIAL night for Tuesday and Thursday.  Tuesday will have one court reserved for lessons and the other three courts will be for normal 1/2 hour social rotation of courts depending on demand.  Thursday will have 4 courts for 1/2 hour social rotations depending on demand.   The four winter Socials at People's Courts were very well attended and successful.  More are planned for next winter. NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2008   The new executive had it's first meeting on November 13th. Tournament Dates have been  set CTC OPEN   April 29th- May 9th Coquitlam Spring Challenge   May 15th-18th Coquitlam Junior Open  Aug 22nd-28th Wheelchair Tournament  July 17th-19th  Social Tennis was discussed and we are looking for ideas on how to improve attendance.  We are seriously considering assigning one court on Tuesday or Thursday for lessons.   This would encourage new members to come and improve their game.   Cost for lessons would be $5.00 for members and $7.00 for Non Members.   Carla Byers has volunteered to teach the lessons. Send your ideas to publicity@coquitlamtennisclub.org Indoor Social Tennis Dates to be held at Peoples Courts Christmas  December 7th, 2008  (Full attendance, great success!) January 18th, 2009 February 15th, 2009 March 15th,2009 Clubhouse Maintenance Alicia, our new clubhouse chairman has spearheaded a project to upgrade the clubhouse interior.  The work is almost complete and Alicia with the help of Winston, Kuniko, Marie, Winnie, Karen and Ray has put on a new coat of paint in main assembly area and bathroom, and reorganized the clubhouse layout.   The carpet will be cleaned by Christmas. Courts, Nets, Lighting Ed & Michael will approach the city with respect to maintenance of the courts, lighting and condition of nets.
