 March 21 Update

Hello fellow Members
Spring is here and our club will be opening next weekend.  March 27 is our scheduled Open House where everyone is invited to the club to:
                  a) renew your membership for the year
                  b) play a little tennis and maybe meet some new members or renew old tennis acquaintances.
                  c) enjoy some light food and refreshments.
The club will be open from noon to 4 pm and, should the 27th be rained out, we will try again on the 28th.
St Patrick's Social
I would like to thank Heather Coxell, who filled in for me and organized the social play, Jack and Boe who organized the food, and Reza who took some time out to take a few photos, for our St Patrick's Social held last weekend at People's court.  Like last time our numbers were smaller than normal so everyone got to play more tennis, and Reza did manage a few action shots of some of the members who played.  To view click on this link: http://picasaweb.google.ca/coquitlamtennisclub/StPatrickSocial2010?feat=email#
From all accounts everyone had a great 'green' time!
     MONDAY NIGHT MENS
  •       For the Men members,  Monday night men's doubles will be starting on March 29.  Like last year Kiyoshi will be organizing the play and I will look after the emails and website communications.
  •  Those interested in joining our competitive doubles ladder play, please send an email to publicity@coquitlamtennisclub.org  indicating that you wish to participate in Monday night doubles and also indicate if you will be available for play either on Monday March 29.  Please arrive well before 6:30 pm. If we have more than 20 players we will organize another group for 8:15 pm.
  •   As for the format, nothing much will change other than Kiyoshi will not be supplying balls this year.  Instead, we are asking that everyone bring a can of balls and a "Looney" to the tennis court.  Players can flip to decide which player will supply the balls for the evening and the other three players will give him their "Looney".
  •  The order of play will be based from where we finished last September.  The members' area of our website still has the results..  in case you have forgotten, to enter the members' area, you need a password and id..... the id is "cottonwood" and the password is "1washroom".   The rules document is also posted on this page.
  •  Members who need more information can contact Kiyoshi at 604-942-0921.
     Tennis BC Leagues
Those players wishing to play league.... remember to renew your Tennis BC membership.  You can renew online at this link: http://www.karelo.com/register.php?&&BID=59&orf=4 or you can go to the following website: http://www.tennisbc.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=130&Itemid=2 print out a form and mail it in.

            See you on the courts

March 1, Update

  Hello Fellow Tennis Players

Well, are we all charged up now!!!! What an Olympic event!  Great incentive to get off our couches and get active.
Our February Chinese Social had a moderate attendance of 30 members.   This was quite good, considering the rest of you were probably out enjoying the games with all it's venues and extracurricular activities .   I had lots of volunteers to take on more tennis playing duties.... must be that Olympic spirit.... which made my job much easier.    It would be nice to see us fill up our last indoor social coming up on March 14 ---- Our St Patrick's Day Social.   Click on the picture to go to our EVENT link which has all the details including a link to pictures of all our socials this year.
StPatricksDay2.jpg

Another day to mark on your calendar is March 27 which will be our Club Open House starting at noon.  That's right!!!! Outdoor tennis at our club will be back in full swing in less than a month's time.

News Update: Dec 11, 2009

Updates from our last executive meeting

A new date has been set for our Coquitlam Open Tournament.  It will now run one week later than in previous years and for 2010 those dates will be May 5th to May 16th.

Ladies Div 4 has moved from a daytime league to a Night time league and Marie Baluk will be the captain.

Men's League: We hope to have a new C1 division made up of graduates from Adrian's Junior program.  They may be calling on some of the older members should their numbers not be high enough.   The entry is also subject to Tennis BC approval.

Alex Szabo has had to resign his position as Club Maintenance Director.  Rick Purdom was nominated and Rick has graciously accepted the position for 2010.  Thanks Rick.

Social Evenings :  The socials for Jan17th, Feb 21st and Mar 14th have all been booked and confirmed at People's Court.

                                        ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The December Social on Dec 8 was another great success with a full house of attendees.  The Christmas Spirit was high with many members bringing food items for the food bank.  Also, as you can see from the pictures, at the link below, the red color theme was very prominent and it provided for a festive atmosphere.  Again, Boe outdid herself with decorating and organizing of the food.  Check out the link below for some of the pictures from the event:

http://picasaweb.google.com/coquitlamtennisclub/Christmas2009TennisSocial

Our next social will be on Jan 17, and for something different we will be ordering in Pizzas.   As a result we will be asking for a $5 nominal charge to help pay for the food.

As always, please send an email to publicity@coquitlamtennisclub.org to book your spot.

                                        ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I also received a communication from Karaoke regarding the possibility of playing tennis in the evening during the winter time.  Here is an excerpt from the letter from the city.

Lights at 2 tennis facilities over the winter.

We changed out the controller at Town Centre Park so that the north and south courts can be operated separately. The north will be available for the rest of this winter and we'll keep an eye how it works out to determine if this becomes our standard practice.   The second location is Mackin Park - both were selected due to their low elevation - presumably translating to less snow and frost.   I've also asked to have this posted on the City's website so the rest of the tennis court users can take advantage of this opportunity.       Kathleen Bernheimer Urban Park Operations Manager City of Coquitlam               604-927-6311         604-927-6311 kreinheimer@coquitlam.ca

NOTE: I am assuming you will still need to hit the button on the wall of the washroom to turn the lights on.

                                   ________________________________________________________________________

On behalf of the executive I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas with your family and friends.

  Remembrance day Social report

We had a full house for our first winter social of 2009.   As usual Boe with her helpers organized all the pot luck donations and it was a great feast before the fun began on the tennis courts.

Another good news story is that everyone who signed up.... showed up!  Thanks for keeping your publicity coordinator informed of any last minute changes.  This allowed the maximum number of members to enjoy a fun evening.

I am trying out a new method (one that is a lot easier) of showing pictures of our events.  You can even post some comments with the pictures. To see some pictures of the evening check out this web link:
