Men's Doubles Ladder  Rules and Procedures

General Rules for Monday Night:

  1. Anyone wishing to participate advises the coordinators.  Kiyoshi Nishihama or Ray Lebrun.  It is the responsibility of the player to check his email or club website for his playing time prior to coming to play.

(At start of season player court assignments will be be carried over from the previous year)

  1. Each court consists of four players playing three sets of rotation doubles.  NOTE: each player is expected to bring a new can of balls and a Looney.  (players can flip to decide who will supply the balls & the remaining 3 players will give $1 to the player supplying the balls. Failure to provide balls or a loonie will automatically place this player as the loser of the court regardless of the scores.)
  2. Play begins at 6:30pm.  Being 15min late may invoke a $10 penalty (see 5.)
  3. Ladder system.  General rule #1 - the winner on a given court moves up one court, the loser moves down one court.
  4. Any player wishing to cancel for an upcoming Monday night must provide at least two days notice.  Failure to provide notice will incur a $10 penalty.
  5. General rule #2 - A player who has been absent, upon their return, will drop one court level *note1 and may be assigned to a court one below the court they had last played on.  If absent for more than 1 week that player may drop more than 1 court level if a conflict of returning players is encountered.  If there are too many returning players one week and a player has to wait a week to return, the player who gave the shortest notice for being away will be the lowest on the list of eligible returning players.
  6. A new player to men's ladder, can be started on any court, provided this new player has played competitive tennis in either tournaments or league, and can provide the coordinators a basis for judging which court he should start on.   A player with no competive playing record, will be started on the lowest court available for his first week.
  7. Players must flip a coin or racquet, to decide which players will play as partners for the first 2 rounds of play.

                                 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Exceptions for Court Assignment:

  1. As there is constant player turnover (sickness, vacation, etc), General rule #1 and General rule #2 will not always be applicable (winner moves up, loser moves down).  Under these circumstances, one or two players  may or may not move down, regardless of whether the privilege has been earned (or not).  For example:

example:  A player on court 2 level 3 goes on vacation.  When he returns he drops down a court level*note1 to 3.  The player on Court 2 who lost also  would have to  move down to 3,  which would create a scenario of 5 people on court 3.

In this scenario 2 people would move down.   A player who wins always goes up but it is possible for more than one player to go down.

1.a When a player is marked "away" on a court the #4 player on that court that would normally go down will only stay up if his total score point count is higher than the #2 player on the court he is to go down to.   ie: court 3 player #4 point count is 12 and court 4 #2 player point count is 13. #1 and #2 player will go up to court 3 and #4 player on court 3 will go down to #1 position on court 4.

  1. A known spare player can be scheduled to play on any court to fill in a vacancy for someone being away, this allows the coordinator to keep the court level play to minimal fluctuations.
  2. Exception #1  has special significance for the last court.  A situation may arise where only one original player on that court retains the right to play the following Monday night.  Please keep in mind, that Monday Night is designated as Men's competitive play.  The right to play on Monday is contingent on performance

                 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ladder play for Court 6-9 (Monday 8:15 pm ):

  •  Court 6 players will get 1st  choice of available courts from end of early draw players as long as all 4 players are present.  Court 7 - 8 - 9 will follow the same order..   Players can opt to play the first set as a regular 6 game set and then switch to no ad scoring if time is running short. (no ad scoring should be started at an even total game count, and can be requested by any one player and honored by the remaining 3 players) Remember that lights are programmed to go out at 10:05 pm.
  •   The winner of the session will be responsible to report the scores to Kiyoshi by phone or by email. Email address: mondaymens@coquitlamtennisclub.org

               -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*Note 1: There are 4 court levels on each court.  Assuming no other returning player a player in postion 1 of court 2 would play in position 3 on court 2 on the week he returns, if he were to miss 1 week.  If a player is absent for 2 or more weeks he will go down a maximum of 2 positions.
